red rose

This was the very first year i ever had a Valentine! (elementary school doesn't count) we spent it on the big island and didn't really do much because we were with a bunch of people. But, this morning i got a red rose, dark chocolate (my favorite) and the sweetest poem i've ever read! whoever said marriage is hard is a liar...because i am having the time of my life! I love being in love. Hope everyone had a great Valentines Day! Love you!

no trespassing!

We went to the big island this last weekend. We found some cheap tickets and just decided that we should go. A bunch of people came and it was so fun. Way different than i ever expected hawaii to be like. Some parts of it made me feel like i was back in Idaho, lots of cows and fields and horses and then 20 minutes down the road we would driving through a beautiful rain forest, then 20 more minutes we were looking at a volcano, and if we looked up the mountain we would see snow on the tip. It was nutz! Every single rental car on the island was sold that weekend and so Pehrson found some random guy who referred us to another guy and we got a car. It worked out great and we made some new friends. =]

one morning at 3 am pehrson, myself, marc and natalie decided that we wanted to sneak pass some gates that said "no trespassing" and see the lava up close. We had some friends who have done it before so we knew that it was okay.

im going to try and explain to you what i saw, but you probably wont really understand the extremity of it until you actually experience it for yourself.

we talked to a couple of rangers who told us that it is pretty unsafe to go out to the lava right now and if you get caught its a $5000 fine. there was a break in the lava "aka a bench" that was going to fall off into the ocean at any given time. SO WHY DID WE DO THIS YOU ASK??? good question im not sure but it was truly one of the scariest things i have ever done in my life, my heart was beating so hard that i thought it was going to burst.

So the 4 of us journey out there walking over these huge piles of dried lava, with flashlights and the red glow in the distance slowly getting closer and closer to us. We said a quick prayer apologizing for our stupidity and making sure we would be safe. We kept walking closer, the glow was mesmerizing, i felt like a bug attracted to the light. i just felt my legs walking closer. once we got like a hundred feet away the ground felt different all of us noticed and the lava was crumbling under our feet. (This is where the heart starts beating fast) i guess there is a layer of lava that has air bubbles and it dries over the already hard lava, so when we would take a step it would break and then it was really hard right below. As we got closer the smell of sulfur was stronger and there was steam coming from below our feet. We stopped there for a while and just looked at the smoke and red glow. it was a very erie feeling, it felt like we were on another planet. We all felt really good about our view there and didn't want to get any closer because we just didnt feel good about it. All the sudden we see these 2 flashlights walking towards us. i thought oh no, we are caught, we are gonna have to pay $5000! but they got closer and it was the guys we needed to see...GEOLOGISTS! this guy takes pictures for some magazines and knows everything there is to know about lava. He started talking to us about the lava and then goes..."actually you are standing exactly over a lava tube!" the lava was flowing under our feet! (once again...heart pounding!) All the sudden we saw an explosion! the lava was spraying out of the tube probably like 15-20 ft up in the air. It was AMAZING! the photographer goes..."i need to get out there!" and looks at the guys and says come on you made it this far, just come. Natalie and i stayed back while we watched our boys get closer to the boiling hot lava. (my heart pounding even more) the explosions continued and we were just standing there in amazement. we were watching the earth be created right in front of our eyes. while the boys were following this guy he told them that if you hear any crackling or loud noises...JUST RUN! DROP EVERYTHING AND RUN! thats how intense it is. they finally came back to us and i held on to Pehrson as tight as i could so happy that he was back in my arms. We ran back to the car because we wanted to get back before it was light so we didnt get caught. as we all sat in the car together we just looked at each other and couldn't really say anything but...WOW! we saw LAVA...2000 degree, boiling hot lava, flowing down a hill into the ocean!

this was not an everyday event. i am just so glad to be alive and to witness God's beautiful creation. It is absolutely amazing!! We all feel very lucky to have seen those geologists when we did. when i think about it it still feels unreal to me and im sure that it might not even sound scary to you, but trust me...IT WAS! something i will never ever forget!

but our trip was so fun and stay tuned cause pictures are on the way!

4 years old

Last night i was babysitting this 4 year old boy in Hauula. they live in this beautiful house up in the hills over looking the ocean. I watch him every monday night while his parents go out. Last week when i was there he said, "next time you come wear a dress!" me: "why?" tyler: "because i want to marry you!" ahhh...so cute right? well right after he said that he started kicking and shooting his guns at me...lets just say that he is a typical little boy. And so last night i was there again and he goes, "kate, can i kiss you?" he is 4 years old and i said of course! expecting just a little kiss. but boy was i wrong...he grabbed my face with 2 hands pressed his lips against mine as hard as he could. I naturally pushed him off me, cause the only lips i want to touch are Pehrsons, and told him to stop. I was at a loss of words so i just started laughing. i couldnt believe this little kid planted this huge kiss on me. it was nutz! i immediately told Pehrson, feeling a little bad inside. He thought it was funny and just told me to never let another boy kiss me again. So...moral of this story, even little 4 year olds can be aggressive. =]

collages

So i'm sure that most of you have seen my sisters awesome blog...if not you schould! she knows how to capture an audience with her great pictures and entertaining writing. she knows how to keep you wanting more. Well, since im her sister i cant let her down and i am slowly learning how to make my blog up to par with hers. When we were little i used to always want to do everything that she did. If she played soccer, i played soccer, if she was wearing red, i would wear red, if she was going to a dance, then i would go to the dance. Well, she always does these really cool collages on her blog, so now I want to do some collages. Pehrson had class and work all day yesterday, so after i got off work i started collaging. And it is addictive! i had so much fun with it, that i cant wait to do more. =] here is what i did. Now, im sure you are probably sick of looking at my wedding pictures, but it was kind of a big event in my life! and i love looking at them. so here they are...
